Winter keeps teasing us New Yorkers with hints of snowfall. Most of us are wishing we could go back to the long warm days of summer, but the reality is that soon the harsh conditions of winter will be upon us.
Inclement weather can affect travel safety. If you find yourself driving in problematic weather this winter, keep these tips in mind.
- Drive slower. The speed limit may stay the same all year round, but road conditions change. Snow drifts and blizzards can reduce your visibility and slick, icy roads make controlling and stopping your vehicle more difficult. Find a place to pull over and wait for conditions to improve if necessary.
- Increase your following distance to give yourself ample time to brake for other drivers.
- Plan ahead for weather and delays. Give yourself extra time to get to your destination.
While you can take precautions to lessen your risk on the road, accidents still happen. Be sure you have a thorough insurance strategy with the correct coverages in place. If you have questions about car insurance or other insurance requests, please do not hesitate to contact us.
